Calibration & Testing

Calibration is a controlled way to turn a starting profile into a setup-specific result. It is not a universal ritual and it does not produce a value that can be copied safely between printers, firmware, nozzles, materials, or slicer versions. Before changing a setting, identify the symptom or outcome, the variable that the test can actually measure, and the conditions that must remain constant.

Record before you test

Capture the exact printer and variant, firmware, nozzle and wear state, build plate and profile, filament product and dry state, slicer and version, selected printer/material/process presets, layer height, line width, speed or acceleration, temperatures, cooling, and recent hardware or firmware changes. Also record the test object, measurement method, date, result state, and whether the result is active or persisted in firmware or the slicer profile.

A clean-looking test segment is not automatically the best functional setting. Check the result on a representative part, preserve the conditions that produced it, and repeat the test after changes that invalidate its assumptions. For symptoms rather than tuning questions, start with first-layer gaps, ridges, and curling , PETG stringing and oozing , or layer shifts, ringing, and motion-related defects . Use profile applicability and slicer control terminology when a setting name or profile inheritance is unclear.

These pages do not replace the calibration or service procedure for the actual printer and firmware. Stop before an unfamiliar firmware, hot-end, gantry, probe, or electrical operation unless the exact manufacturer or firmware documentation makes the required prerequisites and safe state clear.
